Montreal, Quebec March 9, ’09
by Yaniv Loran
The Pester Rebbe, Yoely Lebovits, visited Montreal, on March 5th, and was invited by Menachem Leifer, Founder and Director of the Donald Berman YALDEI Developmental Center for a visit. Yoely met with the center’s special needs children and brought smiles to their faces.
Normally shy and reserved children were able to open up easily to Yoely. He spoke with Sarah, a very shy child. When she spoke with him, she shone. Sarah, who is now six years old, has only been speaking for the last two years, a direct result of the intervention and therapy she has received while at YALDEI.
Yoely got a tour of the facilities. Yaldei is a thriving, state of art, intensive early intervention center dedicated to helping special needs children, or as Yaldei likes to call them, ‘exceptional children’ reach their maximum potential. (watch video)
While at Yaldei, Pester Rebbe held a special chodesh Adar Sushi Tish, delving into the details of all the Minhagim of how to hold chopsticks, specifically at this very special time of year. The Rebbe delved into the details on how many times it is permitted to dip one’s sushi into the soy sauce. The Rebbe expressed his strong distaste for the modern day practice, common among certain communities, called double dipping. He is planning to issue an Issur (ban) on this lack of etiquette.
The staff was extremely encouraged and gratified by Yoely Lebovits’s presence and supportive words and are looking forward to his next Montreal visit. Plans are in high gear for a special Pester Rebbe Shabbos for all of Yoely’s many friends and fans at Camp Yaldei this summer. |
